Nemausus, Gaul, c. 40 B.C.Colonia Nemausus was founded as a colony by Tiberius Claudius Nero in 45 or 44 B.C. for veterans that had served Julius Caesar under his command in Gaul and the invasion of Egypt. He was the first husband of Livia and was persuaded or forced by Octavian to divorce her. At the wedding he gave her in marriage to Octavian "just as a father would."

001s01. Gaius FanniusC. Fannius, Praetor in Ionia. One of the more obscure figures of the period, he evidently came out in support of Pompey.
Coin: IONIA, Ephesus, dated year 86 (49/48 BC). Serpent emerging from cista mystica; all within wreath / [C]•FAN•PONT•[PR]. Two serpents flanking a tetrastyle temple, surmounted by a female cult statue holding patera and sceptre. In the left field, Πς (date), EΦE, Isis headdress below. Torch in the right field. A military commander who fended off the Visigoths. After beating the troops of the emperor Avitus (with the help of Ricimer), Majorian deposed him and either executed him or allowed him to starve to death. Never recognized as emperor by the eastern emperor. Successful campaigns in Gaul and Spain. Majorian was arrested, deposed, and executed by a plot of Ricimer.lawrence cMay 15, 2024
