Victorinus II

Please add updates or make corrections to the NumisWiki text version as appropriate.
Victorinus II, son of Victorinus, was made Caesar by his grandmother Victoria and his father shortly before the father's death, and was himself killed soon after. A tomb near Agrippina (Cologne) is said to have borne the following inscription: HIC DVO VICTORINI TYRANNI SITI SVNT. There are no coins existing struck in his own name but his portrait may probably be seen on the following pices struck by his father:

1. Obv: IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG, head of Victorinus to right laureated and joined with the bust of Apollo under the traits of Victorinus II. Rev: LEG XX VAL, boar; in the exergue P F; gold

2. Obv: IMP VICTORINVS P F AVG, jugate heads of Victorinus and Victorinus II to left, the one laureate, the other bare. Rev: VICTORIA AVG, Victory standing holding wreath and palm; gold

3. Obv: IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG, laureate bust of Victorinus left with cuirass, armed with spear and shield, on which are represented two figures.

Rev: VOTA AVGVSTI, busts facing each other of Apollo (with the features of Victorinus II) laureated and of Diana with a bow over her shoulders; gold.
