BIGAE (from bis jugum). - A car or chariot, drawn by two horses, or other animals. On Roman coins, both consular and imperial, are seen bigae of horses, elephants, mules, lions, bulls or oxen, stags (Diana), panthers (Bacchus), serpents (Ceres); besides centaurs, dragons, Griffins, etc. - See |Car|.
