VOLUME V/1 - Valerian I to Interregnum |
![]() (or what is this mysterious web page about)
RIC (The Roman Imperial Coinage) is the best set (X volumes in 13 parts) of reference books for Roman imperial coins collectors. The best but not the perfect. And this is the main reason for Corrigenda. RIC is also not up to date now. Some volumes were prepared about fifty (or more) years ago, but Roman mints are still working! The new coins, not described in RIC, are constantly discovered. And this is the main reason for Addenda.
Of course it is hard to find - but possible! - a really new Roman coin today. Most of the "new" coins must be classified rather as varieties (unlisted officina etc.) - but even though they are worth to note. RIC number used in Addenda usually points to the "closest match". For practical purposes also general arrangement was taken from RIC although this decision has its dark side because structure of RIC volumes is not unified nor intuitive nor easy to use. It means that you should be familiar with RIC before you use this page. Sorry, it is not a tool recommended for novices.
Making a web page with addenda and corrigenda to all RIC volumes seems to be an impracticable task for one person and that's why I am strongly looking for collaborators (see: "INFO FOR COLLABORATORS" in Menu). This is a work in progress. Right now only volumes V [editor Martin Griffiths] VI and VII are accessible - the other volumes will be successively added in future. All comments, corrections, notes etc. are welcome so don't hestitate to write: comment@notinric.hox.pl Lech Stępniewski
