affronto sempre con disagio
la monetazione magno-greca che, per sua natura, richiederebbe ricerche
bibliografiche che al presente non posso permettermi per ragioni di tempo,
oltre a conoscenze in materia storica di cui non sono in pieno possesso.
Pertanto le notizie che sono in grado di offrirle sono frammentarie, per
lo più limitate a quanto reperibile nel web. Fatte queste doverose
premesse, di seguito fornisco gli elementi che ho potuto raccogliere:

al tempo dell'alleanza della lega dei Bruzi con Annibale.

particular coin gives Ares the appearance of having an extremely long nose.

(moneta) dei Bruzzii. I Bruzzii o Bruzi (in greco ;
in latino, Bruttii, Brutii, Britti o Bruttates) erano una popolazione
italica che durante il 4° secolo a. C. si stabilì nelle zone
interne dell'attuale Calabria (le zone costiere continuarono ad essere
occupate dalle città greche) alle quali diede il nome di Bruzio.
Dopo lotte con Alessandro d'Epiro e poi con Agatocle di Siracusa riuscirono
ad ottenere l'indipendenza. Formarono una confederazione di varie città
(Consentia, Aufugum, Bergae, Besidiae, Ocriculum e altre minori) che nel
3° secolo raggiunse grande potenza. In urto con i Romani al tempo della
guerra di Pirro, furono battuti, ma la loro fine fu segnata dalla sconfitta
di Annibale cui si erano alleati; nel loro territorio vennero dedotte colonie
romane (Tarpea, Crotone, Ipponio) [notizie tratte dal Diz. Enc. Italiano].
