VIJAYANAGARA, THE FORGOTTEN EMPIRE

ARAVIDU DYNASTY

The Vijayanagara empire did not disappear altogether, the empire continued to exist till the early part of seventeenth century under the rulers of the Aravidu dynasty.  The victorious Sultanates did not ultimately gain much as their alliance was soon dissolved and there was a mutual jealousy.  Rama Raya's brother Tirumala took the opportunity to return to Vijayanagara after the Muslim had left it.  He dispensed with the phantom of the nominal ruler Sadasiva and soon usurped the throne for the Aravidu dynasty to which he belonged to.   His successors Ranga-II,Venkata-II and Ranga-III kept the empire intact.

Some of the viceroys established their own independence in the distant places of which Nayakas of Madhura were prominent.  Kingdom of Mysore took its birth out of ruins of Vijayanagara.  Portuguese power fell whose cause was solely due to the dominant trade link with the Vijayanagara empire.
