Description

Denarius of Commodus. Struck after his death, 1st January 193 A.D. Very rare. The coin is ancient, but of poor silver and style, probably an ancient forgery. The reverse may be borrowed from the coinage of Divus Marcus Antoninus.

Obverse: M COMM ANTON AVG PIVS BRIT. Laureate head right.

Reverse: CONSECRATIO. Eagle standing on globe, head right.

BMC p. 756-757.
